Have you ever wondered, “What is my gift, Lord?” At times, we have all felt we are just not making a difference in helping others, as we desire. The following is the story of a
very special person in my life. Her name is Lori.
One day, after Women’s Bible study at Lori’s home, a tear glistened in her eye as she said, “I wish I could do something to further the work of the Lord.” You see, Lori has Lou Gehrig’s Disease, (ALS), and is confined to a wheel chair most of the time. She and her husband, Joe, support the Spotlight on the Bible Ministry, financially, but you could tell in her heart she just yearned to do more.
The workers from the Spotlight On the Bible booth encouraged her to pray for the many prayer requests and for the Lord to send just the right people to give the books to.
Unbeknown to Lori, we were having a dismal Friday morning. There were very few people stopping by the booth to look at our books or give any donations so we could buy more to further our cause. All of a sudden, things started picking up. So many visitors were stopping by the booth we could hardly keep up. In addition, the donations were coming in so rapidly we had to take some of the monies out of the jar to keep it from overflowing!
That evening there was a Bible study at Lori and Joe’s home and I mentioned the exciting events of the day. As I was relating to them, I saw a strange expression spread over Lori’s face. She exclaimed, “What time?” I said, “What time what?” Lori could hardly contain herself as she stated, “What time did the change happen?” Then it all came together, as I said, “I’m not sure but I think it was around 10:00 AM, or so. Were you praying for us?” She smiled the most beautiful smile, as only Lori can give, and said, “Yelp.” Enough said.
The very valuable lesson in this wonderful story is that we all are precious and have something to give others. All we have to do is ask. Prayers are so very powerful and I thank God for sending Lori in to my life to teach me that nothing is small when it comes to discovering our “gifts.”
